JCI Senate Manila Online GMM 2020: “Surviving the Frontlines”
In May 2020, the world was still in the early stages of grappling with the overwhelming impact of Covid-19.
JCI Senate Manila recognized the need to play a guiding role, while still adhering to the stringent safety measures at the time. It was this reason that brought about JCI Senate Manila’s first ever online GMM, with the theme “Surviving the Frontlines.”
The online broadcast featured the venerable Dr. Rody G. Sy, MD, Professor Emeritus of the UP College of Medicine’s Department of Medicine—who himself was a survivor of Covid-19.
Dr. Sy shared his own personal journey as a Covid patient—his risk profile, possible timeline of exposure, and treatment and recovery. He also educated the viewers on how the virus spreads, the many different ways a Covid infection can affect the body, and how the safety measures of the “New Normal” would help to stem the tide of the pandemic. It was clear, comprehensive knowledge that was invaluable during those early months of the virus.
During the GMM, the senators also discussed how the vastly changed landscapes will affect JCI Senate Manila’s endeavors, as well as the role JCI Senate Manila will have to play in helping communities recover from the devastating impact of the pandemic.
