Kindly share with us a brief history of Kamantigue Dental Clinic.
Kamantigue Dental Clinic all began with my grandfather, Dr. Artemio Y. Kamantigue. He was the 1st dentist in the family. Being one the pioneer dentist in the country his Dental unit is preserved in the halls of the Philippine Dental Association Building in Makati.
My father Dr. Romeo V. Kamantigue followed in his footsteps. He was past President of Philippine Dental Association 1996-1997. He was also a founding member of The Philippine College of Maxillofacial Surgeons. He started his practice in Manila and treated patients until he retired.
I began my practice as soon as I passed the the Dental board exam in 1993 in my father’s clinic in Malate. 2 years after I left for New York to do my postgraduate course in Prosthodontics in New York University College of Dentistry. As soon as i got back from my studies, my father started passing on his patients to me until I took over his practice up to the present.
As a doctor of dental medicine, are there types of treatments you specialize in, and can you tell us more about it?
Even while i was still in high school, my father already made me assist him in making dentures for his patients, this sparked my interest for prosthetic dentistry. So I decided to do further studies in Prosthodontics.
I took up my post graduate course in Prosthodontics New York University, College of Dentistry. After graduation in New York, I immediately went back to Manila and practiced dentistry in the Philippines.
What were the biggest challenges brought about by the current pandemic?
Keeping everyone safe was the biggest challenge i had during this pandemic.
With the current pandemic still in a state of unending flux for the foreseeable horizon, what measures are you taking, or have taken to ensure the stability of your practice?
A lot of safety measures were taken before we decided to re open the clinic. the air flow / air circulation / air exchange / ventilation were all taken into consideration. additional air vents, air ducts, exhaust fans and air filters were installed.
aerosol suctions were purchased. Wearing all types of PPE has been the given normal. Patients flow were limited and controlled as we needed time to re sanitized the whole clinic prior to the next set of patients. Emergency cases were given priority without sacrificing the safety of our patients & staff.
Can you share your opinions and viewpoints of the current business landscape?
It will be hard for a lot of the affected businesses to survive as we have only vaccinated about 10% of the population and vaccines are not even distributed equally. It will take sometime before we even get a good amount of the vaccines ordered by the gov’t to arrive in the country. The majority of the vaccines we are getting are donations from other countries or institutions.
Looking ahead, what steps will you be taking to stay more competitive?
When our patients know they are getting the best treatment and that their safety is our no.1 concern, we are already happy as they will be our ambassadors.
